Do You Believe The Lies?

I was reading in Isaiah this morning about the Assyrians coming against Judah.  The leader of the Assyrian army stood outside Jerusalem’s walls and said to the guards on the wall: “The Lord said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it.”

So, this Assyrian was claiming God TOLD him to go up against Judah.  It was a boldfaced lie, but that was what he claimed.  Imagine the people inside of Jerusalem’s walls for a New York minute.  I mean the Assyrians had decimated the nations.  They had taken the northern kingdom of Israel and destroyed it, carting away its citizens with HOOKS IN THEIR NOSES.  Northern Israel was gone – Bye Bye – no more.  And this guy is at the gates of Jerusalem, after seizing all other fortified cities of Judah (Isaiah 36:1), and claiming that Jerusalem was next.  This guy was shouting that God was no longer with Jerusalem, but with the enemy!  What would you think?  Might believe him wouldn’t you?  I mean, NOTHING had happened to stop the Assyrians from coming.  They were one of the most cruel, most ruthless empires to ever walk the planet.  At times they killed every living person and thing when entering a city.  Other times they burned their captives alive.  When they did keep conquered citizens, they kept them as slaves (hence the hooks in their noses) and at times used them as human shields on the battlefield.  I mean – wonderful.

And here the Assyrian army is outside the walls of Jerusalem claiming that the God of Jerusalem TOLD THEM TO ATTACK.

What would you believe?

It was a lie.  The king of Judah knew what was truth and what was a lie, so he went to God and here is what God said.  “Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.”

Stand down, God said to the king of Judah.  Wait for my salvation.  In other words, “I will defend this city.” (Isaiah 37:35)

And defend the city God did.  An angel of the Lord went out against the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 men.  The Assyrian army retreated and Judah was saved, not by men, but by God.

This story struck me this morning because of all the lies we are hearing in the media and from the mouths of our political leaders.

The question is: Do we believe them?

When you look at the situation and don’t dig deeper, you might.  That is what is scary.  Lies have become the new truth.  I mean, none of us wants to believe our neighbor, the media, or our leaders could lie to our faces.  Most Americans just arn’t like that.  We tell the truth.  We want to live in a world where we can believe what we hear, but we all know that the world is becoming more and more corupt.  Meaning – lies are everywhere.  What do you believe?  What can you believe?

Listen to these scriptures . . .

“No one sues righteously and no one pleads honestly.  They trust in confusion and speak lies; they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.” Isaiah 59:4

“They bend their tongue like their bow; lies and not truth prevail in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know Me, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:3

Doesn’t this sound like today?  This is what we have become. What is this a sign of?  The end times.

“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. . . for among them are those who are . . .always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Timothy 3)

“(The Antichrist) will fling truth to the ground and preform (his) will and prosper.” Daniel 8:12

We are living in dark days.  But as scripture says, if you are with the light, “the darkness cannot overcome it.” (John 1:5)

How?  We recognize the truth.

The godly should recognize the lie just like the king of Judah.

“By smooth words he (the Antichrist) will turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display strength and take action.  Those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many.”  Daniel 11

We need to do our research.  We need to be the one of the few, standing for the truth, no matter how much we are criticised.  We need to recognize those smooth words for what they are – lies.  And lies are always against the TRUTH (Jesus).

If we do this we will “shine like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3

And here is what really strikes me.  Normally there is some truth in the lies.  That is how people telling lies normally trick us.  Because most of it is truth, we tend to believe the little bit that is not.  But now, recently, I haven’t seen much truth in any of the lies.  Like zippo.  Nada.  People are becoming more bold in their lies.  Let me say that another way: People are hating everything about the Truth.

And if you hate the truth, you know who you hate?

Yes, you got it, you hate THE TRUTH.  You hate Him.

Stand firm, Christian Soldiers.  Stand for Truth and arm yourselves for battle.  We are in a war for the TRUTH.  Let’s win this thing.
