So you believe. Then you follow. Is there anything else?
You need to overcome.
In Revelation, Jesus is talking to several different churches and He tells each one of them to overcome. If you look closer at Revelation , it is clear what we have to overcome. You ready? Here we go.
We have to overcome complacency (Rev. 2:1-7), tribulation (Rev. 2:8-11), idolatry (Rev. 2:12-17), false teaching (Rev. 2:18-29), dead faith (Rev. 3:1-6), weariness (Rev 3:7-13), and lukewarmness (Rev. 3:14-22).
WOW. That is a tall order, is it not?
Let’s look at another scripture which just about sums it up.
Jesus says, “Take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Oh Nic, you must be thinking. I have to overcome the world? That is a lot to overcome.
Yep. Might as well throw your hands up right now and quit. Because let me tell you something, faithful friends, you cannot overcome the world. Zero percent chance. But wait. Before you turn away, I have good news.
You don’t have overcome the world. Jesus already did.
Let me say that in another way: Jesus overcame for you.
The secret to overcoming the world is to remain in Jesus. That is it – REMAIN in Him. ABIDE in Him. CONTINUE in the faith. That is what some of those churches in Revelation did not do. They drifted away from Him. They let others lead them astray. They fell away from the faith.
Listen to this end time scripture.
“At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each another. . . But he who stands firm to the end, he will be saved.” Matthew 24:10,13
You have to stand firm in the faith. You have to keep the faith.
Listen to Jesus’ own words.
“Remain in Me and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” John 15:4
Remain in Him and you will overcome. Remain in Him and you will bear fruit.
I have heard many Christians become scared at this concept because they don’t see any “fruit” in their lives. Many of us fail to see how we SHINE for Jesus. If you are IN Him, you will SHINE Him and you will bear fruit. You will plant seeds of peace, you will raise your children in God’s grace, you make decisions based on scripture.
As you grow and mature in your faith, you will bear fruit, even if you don’t realize it. If this concept still frightens you, ask the saints who are near you what fruit you are bearing. I guarantee you they will have a list. Why? Because if you REMAIN in HIM it is inevitable that you bear fruit. Jesus said so, and Jesus is the ultimate authority.
Jesus also said, “If you remain in me and my WORDS remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you.” John 15:7
Ah. Now we see one way we remain in Him. His WORD. To remain in Jesus (who is the Word – John 1:1), you have to read the WORD. Amen? Yes, Amen.
REMAIN in Him.
If you are a true saint, this should be easy.
“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30
Jesus doesn’t want this to be difficult for you, He only wants you to love Him, and if you do that, you will overcome. Because overcoming has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with Him.
He already overcame. Remain in Him and you are an overcomer, because you have remained in the one who has overcome.
BELIEVE In Him.
REMAIN in Him.
Keep the faith, faithful friends. In the last days, scripture says many will fall away (Matt. 24:10), but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved (Matt. 24:13).
Stand Firm, Christian soldiers. Stand firm in the faith.
