Okay, you believe, now what?
Jesus (salvation) said, “My sheep ear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
You follow Him. It is that simple.
Sometimes following means sitting still and listening.
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Sometimes following means getting off your tuchus and doing something.
“Let us run with endurance the race that is set out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
So how do we know which to do? How do we “follow Him?”
We listen to His Spirit.
One way we listen to the Spirit is to go where the Spirit is in force – at the assembly of the saints (Matthew 18:20). Don’t avoid church. Have a group to which you are accountable. Everyone needs encouragement and accountability when running their race (Hebrews 10:25). FIND SOME SAINTS.
We also need to read the WORD.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
If you try to follow Jesus down the path of your life and you do not have a light, it might be pretty difficult. And do you know why that is?
“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
Jesus is the Word. If you are following the Word, you will read the Word, and the Word will light your way. Just as you need fellowship, you also need alone time with God in His WORD. You will be amazed at what He can tell you during a small five minute devotion. You will be even more amazed at what He can give you during an hour bible study. READ THE WORD.
Believe me, God speaks through His saints and His word. Find some saints. Read the Word. This will guide you on your journey. But be warned, if what the saints are saying does not jive with the Word, trust the Word! Because the Word is Jesus. All people are human – even saints. Many can be led astray, especially in the last days (Matt. 24:11, 2 Pet 2:1-3). Test everything against the Word – Jesus – because He is the ultimate authority.
Now I want to emphasize this step of “following,” because you can’t just believe Jesus is God to be His saint. Listen to what James says.
“You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” James 2:19
The demons believe Jesus is God too, and they arn’t going anywhere good. So what gives? It is the FOLLOWING part the demons don’t do. They don’t follow Him. They believe Him, but they could give a rip about Him. If you are a saint, you will FOLLOW.
But if you truly love Him, this step should not be hard. Listen to what Jesus says.
“My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:30
God wants a relatinoship with you. That is it. A relationship. The demons don’t have a relationship with God. If you follow Him, you will. This does not mean that you know exactly what He wants you to do all the time. This does not mean that you will not feel lost and confused sometimes. This does not mean that you will not experience the pain of life at times. But here is the kicker.
You will go back to God. You will trust Him despite everything. You will open the Word, even if the tears streaming down your face will not allow you to read them. You will SEEK HIM. You will SEEK to FOLLOW.
And as you follow, you won’t see it, but others will.
You will SHINE Him.
