We have been talking about grief for the past 3 weeks and although I have touched on hope in every post we haven’t concentrated on it. Now we will.
Because there is one way out of the blackness – Hope.
Hope in Him.
I started reading Romans this past week and it talks a lot about faith. I started thinking about belief and faith and realized that they really aren’t the same thing. Do you remember James 2:19?
“You believe there is one God,. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.”
So even the demons believe in God, but of course demons won’t be in heaven. So what gives?
You have to have faith.
According to thefreedicationary.com belief is to “accept as true or real” but faith is “confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.”
You can accept God as real but place no value on Him. You can believe God is true but not rely on His truth. You can know God is real but you don’t have to believe in His trustworthiness. That is the difference between belief and truth. Belief is static. Faith is active.
Faith is step by step, moment by moment, decision to live in the truth of God and place confidence in His trustworthiness. Faith is believing on the truth of God.
And what is the truth of God?
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
And when you believe the truth of God you walk in faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). So when the blackness comes, when your grief is overwhelming, when you don’t know if you can breathe your next breath, you still move forward, step by step because you don’t walk by sight, but by faith. The blackness surrounding you can’t hinder your movement because your faith is active, not static. The blackness surrounding you can’t touch you because you know the truth.
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” John 8:32
Why? Because the truth is Him and His promises. The truth is that death doesn’t win. The truth is that He is going to win – and win BIG.
So, if you are in blackness, remember this: Walk. Walk forward and soon you will see a light in the distance. And you know what that light is?
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Heb 11:1
Belief leads to faith. Faith leads to hope. “And hope does not disappoint us.” Rom 5:5
Because hope is the hope of His return. And when He returns, He will turn your blackness into light.
Dare to believe it. Dare to live it. Dare to trust Him.
I dare you.
