“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near you. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
Be thankful for everything. Rejoice in the Lord always. When you do this, peace will come.
Wait. Be thankful even in hard times? In suffering? In darkness? Yes. The Lord is your God.
Easier said than done right? But that is what God tells us to do.
Sometimes when I am feeling “down” I know thanksgiving is the answer. Here is what I do.
I walk around my house and touch things – and I tell God how thankful I am for them.
My bible – thank you for your Word and the freedom to read it.
A picture of friends – I name each friend and tell God how thankful I am for each individual friendship.
The Frame with my husbands’s voice recorded that speaks on its own – thank you I can still hear him tell me he loves me.
The kitchen faucet – thank you for running water.
My pantry – thank you for the food we eat.
The wall – thank you for my house and the roof over my head.
By the second or third “touch” I am weeping. How many blessings I have! And my depression becomes praise.
Thanksgiving changes your perspective.
And my thanks always comes back to this – Jesus. He is the reason I can get up in the morning. He is the reason I have hope. He is the reason for everything.
Without Him, I would never see my husband again.
Without Him, there would be no “kingdom come.”
Without Him, our life would be over when we die.
Without Him, things that happen here would be the end of the discussion. There would be no “wrongs made right.” There would be no “tears wiped away.”
There would be no hope.
This Thanksgiving I want you to do something for me. I want you to walk around your house and “touch” things.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Psalm 100:4
Be thankful. Praise His name. It changes your perspective. So even if you are walking in darkness, with thanksgiving, you are walking in light.
If you haven’t seen my book trailer, here it is. This gives you a taste of darkness to light. He IS coming. And HE SHINES.
Hope lies in the dark if you dare to believe.
Thank you Jesus!
