The Truth Is A Reproach?

Behold, the word of the Lord has become a reproach to them; they have no delight in it. Jer 6:10

This terrifies me.  Absolutely terrifies me.

Now, lets think about the media and that verse.  Our leaders and that verse.

Ouch.

Now let me tell you what the next verse says.

“I am full of the wrath of the Lord; I am weary with holding it in.” Jer. 6:11

God goes on to say, people are saying “peace, peace” when there is no peace.  Jer 6:14

Man oh man this reminds me of today.

The economy?  Not an issue. Don’t worry about it.  It’s all good.  Terrorists?  No, that man wasn’t a terrorist, only delusional.  Have no fear.  They don’t  want to ANNIHILATE us. No worries.  Peace, peace remember?

Right.

I mean, truth has been stomped on.  Ah, you know this is going to remind me of scripture don’t you?

He “will fling truth to the ground.” Daniel 8:12

That “he” is the Antichrist.  Has he risen yet?  We don’t know, but I do know the environment is already ripe for his falseness.  No one expects truth anymore.  And we are getting less adept at seeking it.

Truth has become a reproach.  I shutter.  I really do.  I think this terrifies me more than anything else.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  He is the Truth, the only truth, and the only way to truth.  He is also the Word made flesh (John 1).  And we know from  Psalm 119:160 that the Word is truth.  If we don’t know the Word, we will not see the truth.  We will be blind.

Many Christians today think the Word is FALLABLE.  Many think the Word has been COMPROMISED.  Many think the Word – well – it is an OLD book.  They think it needs a little updating.

The Truth. . . is a reproach.  EVEN AMONG THOSE WHO PROFESS HIS NAME!

Let me tell you what happens when you start flinging truth to the ground.  You walk out in the world and the world has its own truth.  You start listening.  You think, “That doesn’t sound so bad.”  You start believing the world’s truth  And you walk further and furthre away from THE TRUTH.

And then what happens?  When you have a new truth, one you think better, you start walking the way of that truth, and  you start doing things you shoudn’t be doing, believing things that you shoulding believe, because by your new standards, those beliefs and things are not so bad.

And you walk further and further away.

Just like the bride of Christ in Revelation.

She has lost her first love (Ephesus).  She is dabbling with the world (Pergamum). She is listening to false teaching and not recognizing what it is because she DOES NOT KNOW OR DOES NOT BELIEVE THE WORD IS INFALLABLE (Thyatira)!  She is cold (Sardis).  She is lukewarm (Laodicea).

She is dead.

All because the Truth has been compromised.

If we want to shine His light in this dark word, we need to arm ourselves with the Truth.  The only way to do this is to know the Word.  This does not mean sitting in a church and listening to others tell you what to believe; you need to discover for yourself.  Seek for yourself.  Find for yourself.  How can you recognize falseness if you do not know the truth?  What if the person talking to you is not telling you the whole truth?  What if they have bought the lie of the world?

If you merely listen to someone else, you will never know the Truth.  You will only know a person – the teacher telling you what to believe.  The Truth will be lost to you.  You will be blind.

Open up the Word.  If you do this, you are telling Jesus – I WANT TO KNOW YOU MORE.  Because He is the Word.  And the TRUTH.
