I’m not going to lie. Sometimes I sit back and wonder,”Why in the world am I doing this blog? or writing books? or leading bible study? Is it doing any good?” I mean, it takes a lot of time. Am I spinning my wheels? Is what I’m doing making a difference in anyone’s life?
Then I get a tap on my shoulder at Chuck-E-Cheese.
“Hi,” Jennifer says, a girl in the bible study I attend, “I just want to tell you I am really enjoying your blog. . . ”
And then I get an e-mail from my rock, Tara.
“Thinking of you this morning. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog! Keep it coming!”
Remember my last post about Kiera, and about the 100 coming to faith in Christ? Well, then I get another gift. A friend’s teenage daughter hands me a note. “Read it later,” she says as she smiles.
I notice something different about her. Something almost “shiny.” I notice it throughout the day. She was shining. Like, really shining. Did she get a chemical peel? Did she fall in love? Hum. Interested to read that note.
And I don’t get it. I missed it. If I had paid more attention to her glow, I would have known what was in that note. I would have realized. . .
Stupid Nic. Seriously? Why in the world would a beautiful shining teenager hand me a note?
You got it – she was in love. Yep, sure enough. Daddy captured her heart. Jesus washed her clean. She read my book.
Of course, I’m stupid enough not to realize it until I get home, open the note, and bawl my flippen’ eyes out.
Listen. . .
“When I first read about your experiences, I believed in coincidence. I didn’t think God could have done any of those things.. . .”
And then after she continued to read. . .
“There was no more question of the existence of God. . . God has been there all along, just waiting for me to realize. . . Father is true. Truer than ever. . . Because of you, and Doug, I now have a clear destination of thought. God. And I am determined to learn everything I can, and do anything I can to please Him.”
Wow. Really. Wow. Wow. Wow.
I don’t know what you do, or why you do it, but do it all for the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31)
Sometime you will have no idea how much you are impacting someone else. But one word, one kind gesture, could be a rock that begins the road to revelation.
Don’t give up. If you are an artist – paint. If you are a writer – write. If you are a builder -build. If you are accountant – account! But Shine Christ.
And your shine will cause others revelation. And one day, you may actually get to see them shine.
God’s soldier’s shine. Why? We are reflecting His glory because He lives in us. He comes and takes residence, so when someone hands you a letter. . . and they glow. . .it isn’t really them you are looking at. You are looking at the face of Christ.
Radiate His shine. Radiate it.
I will leave you with words from the letter . . .
“I can’t fully explain what all I’m thinking at this moment, because it all seems so right.”
Yes, God is right isn’t He? He is true and faithful and just – SHINY.
He is right. He is right. He is right.
Shine. I dare you. Shine in your unique way. Shine in whatever you do. Even if you don’t know it, if you are a believer in Christ, you Shine. Not in your own strength, but in His.
Shine Him. Shine, faithful friends.
