Our Faith Is Credited To Us As Righteousness

Abraham was over 75 years old when God promised him a son.  I mean, that is  really old to be a first time father!  Abraham had given up on having any children.  He was expecting to name a servant as his heir (Gen. 15:2-3).  But when God told Abraham that he would have a son in his old age, Abraham believed.

“Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.”  Genesis 15:6

When we hear from the Lord, do doubts enter our minds because of the “impossiblity” of the promise?  Sometimes we believe, but then we doubt as time goes by (see Don’t Quit).

But Abraham believed, depite the impossibility, despite what others said, despite his own doubts, because he knew exactly who God was.

HE KNEW WHO GOD WAS AND HE KNEW GOD COULD DO ANYTHING!

Doubt.  Worry.  Fear.  Anxiety.  It all stems from this – we doubt God can do what He promises.  We doubt God cares enough about our problems.  We worry we have to do it on our own.  We fear our worst fears will come to pass.  We don’t trust ourself.  But if we trust ourself, we WILL fail, because we CAN’T do it on our own.  We fail to realize that God is the one doing the doing.  It is all HIM, not us.  If we rely on us, it is over before it ever began.  OVER.   And then we are a ball of doubt, worry, fear, and anxiety.

It is all sin.  Because we are making our problems and our troubles our god.  It is sin because we fail to lean on the God of the universe who can do anything.

ANYTHING.

Have we asked Him recently for help?  Have we stopped believing in His faithfulness?  Have we forgotten His power?  Are we so self-focused that we see us as our own defender?

I look at one verse all the time.  “I am a father to the fatherless and a defender of widows.”  Psalm 68:5

I NEED that verse, because my human defender is not here.  I need to know my God defends me.  Don’t mess with the widow.  Daddy’s got her back!

But He is a defender to ALL those who believe.  He is our shield.  Our rock.  Our protector.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change.  And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea, through its waters roar and foam, through the mountains quake at its swelling pride.”  Psalm 46:1-3

If we have the faith to believe in WHO HE IS, then our faith is credited to us as righteousness – just like Abraham.

If we believe the impossible can be possible.  If we believe His promises will come to pass.  If we believe Him to be our shield and our strength, then our faith is credited to us as righteousness – just like Abraham.

God is looking for those who will believe.  God is looking for those whose hearts want to believe.  God is looking for YOU.

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”  2 Chronicles 16:9

Now isn’t that something?  Doesn’t that make  you want to shout for joy?  He will STRONGLY support you if you would only believe.

That is what He wants from us.  BELIEF.  FAITH.

Why?  Because it is easy – there is nothing else we have to do.  He wants to make it easy for us to be with Him.  BELIEF.

Why?  Because it is hard.  It is the toughest thing you will ever do, because when the storms come, when the winds of life blow strong, when the torrent is overwhelming, you have to have FAITH that He is still in control, and that He loves you just as much as He did when it was sunny and bright.

FAITH.  BELIEF.  It is something to see.  Have you seen this demonstrated in people around you?  When the worst happens and they are still trusting God?

It is beautiful, isn’t it?

Yes, it is.  And if we think it is beautiful – what do you think God thinks?

Abraham believed, and it was credited to him as righteousness.

The saints are wearing fine linen when they return with Jesus in Revelation 19.  Scripture says that fine linen stand for the righteous acts of the saints (Rev. 19:8).

Abraham believed, and it was credited to him as righteousness.

Belief = Righteousness.

You could say, the saints are clothed with FAITH.

Think you have nothing to give God?  Give Him faith.

You will be clothed in beauty for the remainder of your days.

May you wear your faith today.  Shine Him.
